What is structured data?

Structured data is standardized markup that describes a page's content explicitly. Instead of letting an engine guess whether a page is about a product, a service or a business, you tell it directly, in the Schema.org vocabulary. The recommended format is JSON-LD, a discreet block of code added to your page.

Why does it matter? Google relies on this markup to display rich results, such as star ratings, prices, FAQs or breadcrumbs, and AI engines rely on clear data to extract and cite your content accurately. Good Schema therefore serves your SEO and your AI visibility at the same time.

The most useful Schema types

The right Schema depends on your page. Here are the types we use most often and what they bring.

Schema typeWhat it is for
OrganizationDescribe your business as an entity and link your profiles
LocalBusinessStrengthen your local presence and the local pack
ServiceDescribe your services and what you offer
ProductShow price, availability and reviews for your products
ArticleStructure your blog content and guides
FAQPageDisplay your questions and answers directly in the results
BreadcrumbListShow the breadcrumb trail and clarify the structure
PersonPresent your team and support E-E-A-T

We never add markup without a reason. Each type is chosen because it describes real content on your page, never to simulate information you do not have.

The entity and the knowledge graph

Beyond rich results, markup is used to build your entity. An entity is your brand understood as a unique, identifiable thing, with its name, logo, address and profiles. When Google and AI models clearly recognize your entity, they associate you with the right topics and cite you accurately.

We build this entity with Organization Schema, consistent identifiers and the sameAs property that links your official profiles. We make sure the information is the same everywhere, on your site and on external sources. That is what helps your brand enter the knowledge graph and be recognized by AI, work at the core of our GEO optimization.

Our four-step approach

Markup is not a simple copy-paste, it is a method. Here is ours, so your Schema is useful and accurate.

  1. 01

    Audit of existing markup

We check what is already in place, what is missing and what is in error. We spot duplicates and ineligible markup.

  2. 02

    Choosing the types

We select the Schemas that match your pages and goals, without overdoing it or leaving any out.

  3. 03

    Implementation in JSON-LD

We implement clean markup, consistent with your visible content, and connect entities to one another for a clear structure.

  4. 04

    Validation and monitoring

We validate every markup with the official tools, fix errors and monitor rich results over time.

Implementation and validation

Poorly implemented Schema can hurt instead of help. That is why implementation and validation matter as much as choosing the types.

We follow a few simple but strict principles:

  • Markup must always reflect the content actually visible on the page
  • JSON-LD is preferred, because it is clean, editable and recommended
  • Each page carries the right types, with no duplicates or conflicts
  • Every markup is validated with the official tools before going live

This rigor avoids the errors that make Google ignore your Schema, or worse, trigger warnings. Clean markup is markup that works for you, not against you.

Markup that makes you citable by AI

This is where Sitegrow stands out. AI engines extract clearly described content more effectively. Your structured data tells them who you are, what you offer and what your page says, without ambiguity. It is a direct signal that makes it easier to cite your brand.

That is why we never treat Schema as a mere technical formality. While others forget it or rush it, we use it to make your content readable and citable wherever your customers search. Markup is also a pillar of our technical SEO.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Schema structured data and what does Sitegrow do?

Schema structured data is code markup, usually in JSON-LD, that describes your content in the Schema.org vocabulary so machines understand it. Sitegrow chooses the right types, implements them cleanly, builds your brand entity and validates every markup, so Google displays rich results and AI extracts your content without error.

Does structured data directly improve my rankings?

Markup is not a direct ranking factor, but it helps indirectly. It enables rich results, which improve your visibility and click-through rate, and it clarifies your content for Google and AI. This stronger understanding supports your SEO and your chances of being cited.

Which structured data format should I use?

JSON-LD is the recommended format. It is clean, easy to maintain and separate from the visible content, which reduces the risk of errors. We use it by default, unless a specific case justifies using another format.

Does structured data help in AI answers?

Yes. Clearly marked-up content is easier for AI engines to extract and cite. Schema describes your business, your offers and your pages without ambiguity, which increases your chances of being understood and recommended by AI assistants.

Want to win rather than survive?

Choosing the right agency means making sure your content is clearly understood and no longer left to the interpretation of machines. Sitegrow selects, implements and validates the right Schema to secure your Google and AI visibility. It starts with a call.
